Nestled along the banks of Mill Creek and its surrounding hills, Turner is so close, yet such a world away. Fifteen minutes from downtown Salem and just off I-5, the City of Turner boasts a long history and vibrant future. Turner is entering its' second century with a vision to develop a self-sustaining community through an involved citizenry and City staff committed to keeping their needs the top priority.
The historic home of the Oregon Christian convention (the oldest Christian Meeting Place in Oregon) and Aldersgate conference center, it has now welcomed a flock of new businesses, new parks and with them new opportunities.
2024 Year End Report
Following is a summary of City of Turner accomplishments/projects/decisions/actions for 2024:
Major Projects:
- Installed a new water pipeline and built a new pump station to ensure proper water pressure in the original part of Turner
- Installed a new crosswalk at 3rd/Delaney, with Marion County providing the pedestrian signal
- Built new stormwater lines in the downtown area to alleviate flooding near Chicago and 2nd Streets and along 3rd St. near Chicago Street
- Installed a much improved and expanded playground at David Sawyer Park after Turner Elementary students and parents selected the equipment. The project earned the City a League of Oregon Cities “Award of Excellence”.
- Sold the Ball Brothers Building to a private party. The building is getting close to full occupancy.
- Adopted a new Transportation System Plan. An emphasis will be placed on improvements near Turner Elementary.
Accomplishments:
- Completed a compensation study for Public Works employees
- Contracted with the Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments for City Attorney Services
- Acquired a new Police Vehicle using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds
- Altered City Code to ban alcohol use in City parks
- Revised the Turner Lake Park Services agreement to continue vendor responsibility for routine park maintenance
- Developed a City policy for allowing farm animals in city limits in certain circumstances
- Made initial decision on new Floodplain regulations
